In the last month, I've been up to New York 3 times for work.

Penn Station and Amtrak have become some of my best friends this month.

If there is one piece of wisdom that I can impart on to the blogosphere,

it would be to avoid the bathroom at Penn Station.

Man, it's bad.

I had to learn that the hard way.

During my most recent work trip, my mom decided to come up to hang out

in New York while I was working.

After a very stressful work week it was so nice to have my Mom

to hang out with on Friday night in the city.

We headed to dinner, went shopping, bought some great shoes,

and then met up with Amber for some dessert. (banana pudding, of course!)

Saturday morning before heading back to DC, I got to see my good friend Logan who happened to also been in New York for work. It was so great to see him!

Can't wait till our whole crew can reunite in May.

I was welcomed home to my sister that is visiting from CA and my nephew

who is the world's cutest baby. I'm so excited to spend the week with them!

Life Lately.

Things have been SO crazy for the last couple of weeks.

I've been working super long hours. Several trips to New York for work.

Studying and taking a certain graduate exam, during the super bowl (ugh).

And so, blogging has taken a little bit of a back seat.

My life should be a little calmer in about a week.

That is if I make it through Saturday....

A definite highlight of my past week was getting to hang with

my old roommate Amber while I was in New York for work over the weekend.

I just love that girl-- and have missed her so much since she moved.

Here's some snapshots of our glorious reunion...

1. Nothing like a some apple cider to walk the colds streets of New York.

Love the valentine's day cups.

2. Iconic NY cabs. I usually love them-- expect when they refused to pick me

and my co-workers up at our work event in Harlem....

3. Fake purses anyone? I did get a pretty awesome fake Longchamp bag that's not pictured...

4. Amber and I celebrate a belated Chinese New Year by getting an hour long foot massage.

It's the new hip thing you know. It was actually seriously painful.

Beauty is pain, right?

But you can't beat the $20 price tag. Only cheap deal in Manhattan.

Red Box.

I'm pretty sure that I am the case study of a perfect Red Box customer.

I love the convenience of it and you can't beat the $1 price tag.

But there's a problem. And it's the reason why I'm Red Box's favorite customer.

I can't ever seem to return the movies.

I rent them with every intention of returning them the next day,

but once I watch it, it's out of sight, out of mind.

I won't remember that I still have it until I spot it by the TV usually a week or two later!

Ugh. So much for the "cheap" movie rental.

Knowing that I can never seem to return them in a timely manner,

I told myself that I couldn't rent any more red boxes.

I was going to farm out that responsibility to my friends.

Well of course that resolution last about 1 day,

and I went to pick up a red box for some friends. This was a week and a half ago.

I just noticed it still sitting in my family room.

Does this happen to anyone else, or is it just me?

After a Mom-Daughter dinner date with my mom, my roomies and their moms to Vapianos,

we decided to engage in a friendly (or so we thought) game of Phase 10.

The nerd in me forgot how much I love that game.

It also helps that I dominated.

Right now, the last thing I have time for are DIY projects. Yet that's all I can seem to think about.

My mind is in creative mode, not work or studying mode.

Here are a couple of DIY projects I've been thinking about over the last couple of days.

Looks like I need to throw a dinner party.

1. I'm all about the creative garlands right now. These paper hearts are perfect for Valentine's Day!

2. Love these yarn and sparkly letters. They seem easy enough recreate and look fabulous.

3.More garlands. you surprised? These are just paper dots sewn together on a sewing machine.

But if you don't have time/patience/skill (I may lack some of those)--

4. These are the cutest crepe paper flowers I've ever seen. Perfect for a Valentine.

Or anything really.

Ingrid Michaelson recently announced on Twitter that she was putting together

several small pop-up concerts to showcase her

new album that is being released this week.

DC was the first show she announced!

Lizzie is a rockstar, and happened to be on Twitter right when she announced the show.

She quickly bought 2 tickets before it sold out in 30 minutes. Luckily, she took me!

Ingrid's new stuff is amazing!

The concert was incredible and it was so fun to be in such a intimate setting.

(only 200 of us!)

Can't wait till she comes back to DC for her real tour in April.

And buy her new album- it's great.

Miss America.

Some of my fabulous girl friends threw a Miss America Party this weekend.

We all picked a state to represent for the night.

I represented the good old home state of Virginia.

The best part of the evening was reading all of the special "facts" (if you can even call them that)

about the contestants that flashed on the screen.

My favorite was the contestant that claimed to have "Bieber Fever".

You and me both Miss Tennessee.

All this talk of Miss America made us want to relive the

horrible Q&A from Miss South Carolina from a few years ago. Remember that?

Long weekend...

My long weekend was pretty great.

It was relaxing, funny, productive, and random.

Always a good combination for a weekend. Right?

Here's the rundown:

- Goodbye party for a friend. Steve-- we'll miss you!

- Brunch at one of my new favorite places in Georgetown. It might deserve a separate blog post.

- Hanging out with Baby T, who I treat like my nephew, since mine is far away...

-Miss America Party.

- 40% at the Loft. Always makes for a good day.

-Pickup football game with friends.

- Attempted to purge my closet of clothes I don't wear. This is all I was able to purge:

Why is it always so hard to get rid of clothes?

Even if I haven't worn something in a year, I think,

well what if I'll want to wear that soon?

At least I got rid of a bag full. Baby Steps.

I thought about trying to organize the giant shoe pile that has accumulated on my closet floor.

But then I got distracted. Classic.

Maybe tonight?

-Probably the highlight of the weekend was being the host (aka Chris Harrison wannabe) on our very own ElimiDate. Don't remember what ElimiDate is? Well brush up on this MTV classic here.

Some of my good friends decided to auction off an

ElimiDate for the service auction we had in December.

The very lucky young gent that purchased the ElimiDate had a blast on Saturday.

5 Ladies, 1 Gent, 3 different activities throughout the evening.

After each activity 2 women were eliminated until there was one women standing.

I had a blast playing the host and chauffeur.

We had the best group of people doing it-- laughing like crazy.

Martha Stewart has a tutorial on how to make custom colored chalkboard paint.

Isn't this idea amazing?

I have been wanting to make all sorts of chalkboard projects for YEARS now.

1. Chalkboard on the back on a pantry door? yes please. This will happen when I own a house.

2. Chalkboard calendar in a modern office? Love it. It kind of reminds me of a DIY project my twin-in-law made. See here.

3. Normal chalkboards can become ascetically pleasing

when you customize the color to match a room. Genious.

4. Chalkboard in the kids play room? awesome.

Except, would it teach the children to write on walls?

Took a super quick day trip up to New York yesterday for work.

That 6am train is brutal. But thanks to the best roommate in the world,

who took me to the train station, I didn't have brave the cold and the metro that early.

The trip was basically all work and no play--

but I did make time to grab some of the world's best banana pudding.

Magnolia's Banana Pudding. Yum.

I was going to attempt to save my pudding or at least make it last for a few days.

Nope. Definitely ate it all on the train ride back.

That pudding is dangerously good.

-Boat Excursion, where we saw Dolphins, Sea Turtles and went snorkeling.

Since our family is split between coasts,

and whole family photo ops don't happen very often,

we knew we had to take some family pictures in Hawaii.

So I set up a tripod, and we snapped away!

Unfortunately, baby Carter thought that was the perfect time to have a meltdown,

so Katie, Vonn and Carter only made it in one set of the pictures. We still love you Carter!

There was one really windy day while we were in Hawaii,

so the family decided to take a little road trip up the coast line for some beautiful views.

Our final destination was Laie, where one of the Hawaiian temples is located.

Isn't it so gorgeous?

I think all temples are beautiful and have their own personality,

but you can't get much better than a street lined with palm trees

and a beach literally across the street.

It's beautiful.

While we were waiting for my sister, brother-in-law, baby

and my parents to finish walking around,

the rest of us headed down to the beach to enjoy the views for a while.

I just love that Hawaiian Beach.

I was loving all of the Hawaiian palm trees.

I know all you Californians are used to seeing them all the time,

but I rarely get to see them!

Lizzie and I thought it would be cool to climb a couple of them.

It may not look high-- but it was surprisingly scarey!

So of course I took the opportunity to learn how to make an animated gif.

Pearl Harbor.

I've only been back on the mainland for a few days, but I'm already going through sun withdrawals.

I'm missing my family time in paradise.

Our last day we headed to the Pearl Harbor memorial.

2011 marked 70 years since the attack.

As we watched some videos and walked around the grounds,

I felt for all the men and women that lost their lives.

World War II fascinates me, and I now have the urge to watch

the Ben Affleck, Josh Hartnett Pearl Harbor movie.

Hello, Ben Affleck.

Unfortunately, we couldn't get tickets to go see the USS Arizona.

I guess I just have to go back to Hawaii to see it...

Happy 2012!

2011 has been a great one.

Since I use this blog as my only source of journaling, here's my annual 2011 recap.

1. Spent the first quarter of the year brunching with some of my favorite gals.

It appears we were trying to eat our way through the District. (see here, here and here)

DC Ladies-- I think we should continue. But maybe combine this with a running club :).

2. Headed to Utah to visit some friends. (see here)

3. Had a snow adventure with Kim. (see here)

4. Had a great birthday with friends in NYC. (see here)

5. Loved the gorgeous Cherry Blossoms. (see here).

6. Headed to Utah again for the graduation of my twin and twin-in-law. (see here, here and here).

7. Woke up at 4am to watch the Royal Wedding.

I'm still loving Will and Kate.

8. Watched my neighborhood come together over a killer bird.

9. One of my favorite restaurants of all time, Cafe Rio, arrives on the east coast. (see here)

10. Invested in some new photography gear, took a few classes and am working to improve my photog skills. (see here, here and here).

11. Headed to CA in June to visit to family and attend a friend's wedding. (see here, and here)

12. Celebrated a great 4th of July with friends. (see here)

14. Survived DC's earthquake and hurricane.

This weekend a few friends of mine went on a tour of the White House.

I was so excited to be going at Christmas time, to see all of the decorations.

They've always had a no picture rule, but when we showed up, they said as a "Christmas gift**" we could take pictures.

You could imagine that not being able to take pictures would have about killed me, so I was elated, and began snapping away.

I didn't bring my nice camera, but was glad to at least have my phone with me!

I went to see the Zoo Lights this weekend.

Just a little roommate date before we got all dolled up for a big Christmas Party.

The lights were awesome-- such a fun free outing.

Down side, was the freezing cold temperatures.

I needed a boy there to keep me warm! Next time...

Instead, I got some Carmel Apple Cider from Starbucks which kept me warm.

It was a life savor. Have you had Starbucks Apple Cider? It's awesome.

This past weekend we had a silent/live auction at our church

to raise money to provide Christmas for some families in need.

I was a part of the planning committee and it was an amazing experience.

By the end of night, we raised about $15,000! Huge success!

Some of the top auctioned items included:

-Basketball signed by Jimmer Fredette and Jackson Emery

-Accommodations in various cities, Paris, Poland, Costa Rica and Tanzania

-Four Wheeling weekend in Leesburg, Boating weekend in CT

-Personalized, autographed copy of George Bush's book, Decision Points

-Autographed Washington Capitols Jersey

It was a huge success, and we'll be able to help a lot of families for Christmas!

Monday Metro: Hot Chocolate Run.

This last week and weekend were crazy busy. Really fun- but busy.

Among other things, I ran DC's Hot Chocolate 15k/5k.

Don't worry I only ran the 5k.

This is the first race I have ever run, and while only a 5k-- I still felt a since of accomplishment!

It was a lot more fun than I expected. I can see why people can really get into it.

Don't expect me to start running marathons or anything (I didn't like it quite that much),

but you can expect to see me run some more small races!

How could you not have fun at the Hot Chocolate race, when it's sponsored by Ghirardelli's chocolate?

We were greeted with hot chocolate and chocolate fondue upon finishing the race.

If that isn't motivation to finish, what is!?

I realize my eyes are closed in this picture (lame) but it was just so cute of everyone else,

that I had to include it.

I love Thanksgiving. It's definitely one of my favorite holiday's.

Unfortunately, my siblings in CA didn't come home, which meant no Barker Bowl.

We still got our fix of a Turkey Bowl with some friends in Arlington, followed by the best thanksgiving dinner with my family and family friends.

There's nothing better than thanksgiving dinner...

My mom always does killer table decorations. I need her to teach me her ways!

A blog wouldn't be complete at thanksgiving time without a "what I'm thankful for" post.

I'm going to save you the mushy, gushy stuff and list some top 3 things I'm thankful for.

1. Family and Friends. I can't over emphasize this enough. My family and friends are incredible. They support me, cheer me on in the good and the bad. Celebrate with me, cry with me. Listen to me as I vent. Smile with me when I'm victorious. I couldn't survive with out em. You know who you are...

LOVE YOU!

2. Technology. Just yesterday I face timed with my sister and got to "hang" with my cute nephew, Baby C. How awesome is it that we can video chat with people around the world? I love it!

3. My belief in the gospel, which keeps me grounded, keeps me happy and which brings me such peace.

Since I have some time off, Lizzie, my mom and I headed to Middleburg, VA.

Horse Country.

It was so nice to get out of the city. It was gorgeous.

Slower pace of life, green rolling hills.

It made me seriously wish I had grown up riding horses.

We drove through the campus of the Foxcroft school.

An all girls school that Lizzie use to attend in the summer for horse back riding.

After seeing this place, I wish I had jumped on that band wagon when we were kids!

We ate at the cutest place for the lunch. Perfect fall day.

I've got Bieber Fever. I know it's a little late to jump on the bandwagon,

I watched Never Say Never a couple of weeks ago-- and fell in love.

It was quite the scene-- 1:00am, me sitting 2 feet from the TV with a huge grin on my face.

I'm up in NYC for work- and as I sat in my hotel last night, ready to blog away- I found that there was no Internet. Really? It's 2011 people. And so I'm blaming this lame phone post on the lack of Internet.

Despite the lack of internet, i've loved being in the concrete Jungle. Doesn't look like I'll have time for any of my favorite Banana Pudding, which is a real shame!

I'm excited for the 3 day weekend ahead (Veterans Day). Who in DC wants to do something fun??

There have been lots of changes in the last couple of weeks.

I just accepted a new job!

I'm going to be an Events Manager at the United Nations Foundation!

I couldn't be more excited and thrilled for this opportunity!

Even though I'm really excited,

It was a bittersweet decision to leave my old job.

It was my first job out of school. I met great people.

Learned a lot. Had great experiences there.

It was sad to say goodbye to everyone on Friday-- I'm going to miss

seeing all of my co-workers everyday!

Calling into radio contests, discussing looming engagements (congrats JS and DR!),

Georgetown lunch breaks, farmers markets, dressing alike, CVS runs. My amazing office views.

I'll miss it all. Even the Rosslyn Metro escalator. (those in DC know it's horrible! ahh!)

I'm going to miss these girls!

I have a little time off before my new job starts-- so get ready for baking,

DYI projects and much more...

I'm excited for what lies ahead!

Close to my parents house, in Vienna, there is a house that lines their drive way

with hundreds of amazingly carved pumpkins every year. It's awesome.

I hadn't been in years so I decided I had to check it out this year.

It was definitely worth it. incredible.

I thought this pumpkin was one of the best... Hilarious.

My sister and brother-in-law, Katie and Vonn, know of some of the coolest places in

Southern CA. They took me to Crystal Cove, where we ate at the cutest little restaurant that was right on the sand.

We couldn't resist snapping a few pictures....

Katie also took Karly, Baby Carter and I to cutest little alley way at Laguna Beach, where they have incredible gelato.

My old roommate Amber was in town for the weekend.

I loved, loved, loved having her here!

Before Apple Picking, she met me during my lunch break and we headed to Georgetown Cupcake.

We tried the seasonal pumpkin cupcakes. Yum.

It was probably one of the few times I've been there when the line wasn't out of control.

Lauren, Domineau and couple other friends went to Taste of DC this weekend.

They close down Pennsylvania Ave and tons of DC restaurants set up tents showcasing their food.

I think the best thing we ate were the Wicked Waffles and the Pumpkin Whoopie pies!

I need to get my hands on some more of those!

It was perfect weather, so we decided to end the night hanging out at the Jefferson Monument.

I always love the monuments at night.

Weekend Brunch.

It was a great and relaxing weekend.

I spent most of it watching General Conference, where leaders of our Church give us advice and guidance. They always provide a much needed pick me up.

Pre-Conference we hosted a brunch at our house, in between sessions I played football in the mud, and on Saturday night I saw Moneyball-- which I loved.

I lost track of time while preparing for the brunch, so I only have pictures of the unhealthy brunch items.

Go figure. Although not pictured, we made delicious egg casseroles, as well as fruit! :)

My favorite treat was the mini-cinnamon rolls.

Not pictured, was the bowl full of icing for dipping.

In addition, we had Kim's all-time favorite donuts.

I'm so happy I got to finally use my bottles from Ikea! Love those things.

Best use of $3.99.

2. Helping garden the neighborhood for Virginia Day of Service. Neighbor Tom was cracking me up!

3. Heading to the So You Think You Can Dance concert. Which was awesome. Remember when I went last year? Too bad I didn't get kissed this year.

4. Enjoying the BYU Victory with a little football gathering at our place.

I’m surrounded by talented people.

My mother is a design genius. My sisters and sister-in-law are equally as talented.

Having said that—I’m embarrassed to admit that for the first year

I have lived in my current apartment I had NO art on the walls.

None. Kind of pathetic.

When we decided to re-sign our lease, we also decided it was time to add some color to the walls. We had no more good excuses holding us back.

My roommate Kim and I dubbed a recent weekend, “Home Improvement weekend”.

Among other projects, we spent one morning putting together some art work for our family room.

We were having trouble picking out art-- so we decided we would make our own! We picked out 5 sheets of specialty paper from the Paper Source, and framed them in Ikea Frames. Really simple and easy!

The hardest part was trying to hang them on the wall. I even tried to download a "level" app on my phone-- which did not help. They're definitely not hung perfectly-- but it will work for now!

We are one step closer to a fully decorated apartment :)

I went camping this weekend.

How cute is that cabin we stayed in?

Turns out it was really cold.

Camping and cold shouldn't be in the same sentence.

Despite the cold, we still managed to have a blast.

Ate 'smores, played football, softball, hiked to a "waterfall"

(turns out the waterfall was more like water on rocks, but still cool)

Our camp was literally next to Camp David.

We thought we'd get lucky and see Obama-

no such luck.

The weekend was a great start to fall!

Monday Metro: Newseum.

I'm often asked, what are some of the top things to do in DC. One my go-to responses

and probably my favorite Museum in DC is the Newseum!

It's full of exhibits featuring world history as it was seen through the media.

I might be bias because I studied Communications/PR in College-- but the museum is so fascinating!

Last weekend, for the anniversary of September 11th, entrance was free.

The museum has an incredible, but very humbling, 9/11 exhibit.

The exhibit includes part of the antenna from one of the World Trade Center Towers, numerous pictures and timelines from the day, and a huge wall filled with all of the newspaper front pages on 9/12.

They had an incredible documentary about September 11th that definitely brought on the tears.

The exhibit was such a perfect way to remember the 10th anniversary.

There is also an incredible view of the city from the museum balcony.

There are tons of other great exhibits, one of my favorites being the Pulitzer Prize Photography Exhibit.

Who wants to go back to the Newseum with me?

Two Years Ago...

Two years ago, I graduated from BYU.

Two years ago, I moved back to my home state.

A lot has changed since then.

I've made new friends, missed old friends.

Moved into my own place.

Laughed, cried and everything in between.

My twin got married, my sister had a baby.

Two years ago, yesterday, I started my first real job.

I can't believe it's been TWO years. Time sure does fly.

So yesterday-- on my work-iversary, Beth (who also started the same day as me) and I of course showed up to work matching! Remember when I posted about our tendency to match here and here.

So what could be more fitting then accidentally matching on our work-iversary.

You have all heard about the dc serial butt stabber right?

For those of you not in the DC area, let me recap.

Since February, there have been about a dozen reports of a man at a mall clothing store that would cause some sort of distraction. Then he would "stab" a women's butt with a razor and run away.

Weird and distorted right?

According to NBC, the butt stabber has been identified.

Phew. We can all sleep well tonight.

Oh commuting.

It was just not on my side today.

On my way home from work it was raining. Strike 1.

Then when I walked down into the metro I heard "delay's on the blue line-- single tracking".

That's never a good sign. Strike 2.

The platform was super crowded, but I knew I had to get on the next train to make my bus.

I had to literally squeeze onto the train. People were shouting profanities around me

because they wanted people to make room.

I "metro surfed" for 2 stops because I was stuck in the middle of the car and couldn't reach anything to hold on to.

Luckily, I got off only 2 spots later-- but because of the delays I watched as my bus drove away.

I was only a few seconds too late. Strike 3.

Once I was on my bus, we started driving up a hill and you better believe that our bus broke down.

Just stopped. Nothing could be done. I walk home-- in the rain. Strike 4.

Luckily I wasn't too far from home.

Gotta love commuting. I've got stories galore.

Aunt Patty's Salsa.

By popular demand-- I bring you the best salsa recipe in the world.

It's rocks.

Aunt Patty’s Salsa

1 large can diced tomatoes
1 large bottle Kraft Zesty (Fat Free) Italian Dressing
2 cups frozen corn
1 large cucumber, peeled and diced
1 large green pepper, diced
½ cup (tightly packed) diced green onions
½ cup chopped fresh cilantro
1 lime squeezed in
1 clove minced garlic
Tons of salt and pepper to taste.

Mix this together and refrigerate. You can also add avocado chunks.

"Hurricane" Irene= A Rainy Weekend.

A few photos of what my Hurricane weekend included:

1. Lots and lots of rain boots and umbrellas.

2. In my quest to buy the necessary items to prepare for Irene, I almost bought an Auntie Anne's pretzel making kit. Who knew these existed?? I decided it wasn't a "necessity" so I didn't buy it-- but I'm thinking a pretzel making night needs to happen soon!

3. This picture looks a little creepy. I assure you that was not the intent. At the beginning of storm on Saturday, A bunch of my friends headed to the park for some mud football. This was how scary I looked when we were finished. I was covered in mud. I also walked away with some pretty great battle scars.

4. A weekend stuck at home is always better with home made salsa. One of these days I'll post the recipe. Because, trust me-- it's the best!

Monday Metro: MLK Memorial.

The new Martin Luther King, Jr. memorial is now open on the National Mall!

It's only the 4th national memorial to be made for a non-president.

MLK was just that awesome.

As you walk up to the memorial, you enter by walking through 2 huge stone walls (or "mountains")- and then enter to see a statue of Martin Luther King, Jr..

It was inspired from a quote, "Out of the Mountain of Despair, a stone of hope", from MLK's "I have a dream..." speech.

The memorial is also filled with his famous quotes.

One of my favorite quotes from the memorial:

I was going to attend the memorial dedication, which was supposed to be yesterday.

It was going to include addresses from President Obama and performances from Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Berry Gordy, Jr., George Lucas, Jamie Foxx and Clarence Avant.

But "Hurricane" Irene caused it to be postponed.

This has been a weird week.

Earthquake on Tuesday, Flash flood warnings today, Hurricane Irene this weekend

(which is supposed to be the worst east coast hurricane to hit the US in decades).

It made me think, what was I doing this week last year?

and then I remembered-- I was in France!
Crazy how different the 3rd week in August is this year compared with last year.

Hopefully we stay dry this weekend!

Earthquake.

People panicked on the street as they we were evacuated from our buildings.

I've survived my first (and hopefully) last earthquake.

Today I was not loving working on the 23rd floor as our building shook and swayed back and forth.

I'm glad we booked it to the stairs and made our way down quickly.

DC has been CRAZY today.

I just got back from an amazing weekend at Lake Candlewood in CT.

My only regret is never making it up on the slalom ski.

I can't believe it's already the middle of August!

I'm trying to soak in as much summer as I can in the next few weeks.

I headed to the Nat's game last night with a few friends that were in town visiting. (great to see you Cody!)

We actually had amazing seats, which lead to me actually staying until the end of the game. (probably an AJB first.- Wahoo!)

The weather was perfect, and to top it off-- we won!

(Which is actually saying a lot for the team that had the worst record in baseball last year)

Thanks to Lauren's blog, I found out that today is National 'Smores Day.

I love 'smores. This love was born, while I was living in Utah for 5 years. Utah is the capitol of bonfires.

One question though. Why is National 'Smores Day in August? The thought of sitting around a giant fire in 100 degree heat, makes me want to cry.

But then I saw this picture--- 'Smores and ice cream? Now that's a summer treat!

A couple of weeks ago I went tubing in Harper's Ferry, VA.

Jessica was filming me as I fell out of my tube and somehow landed back into it

with one leg in and one leg out of the tube.
It took me like 5 minutes to get situated because I was laughing so hard.

You walk outside, and you are suddenly showering in your sweat. Gross.

This morning I knew it must be really humid,

when I took my phone out of my purse and the screen immediately fogged up.

Since it's so hot-- all that sounds good are popsicles.

One of my bff's and roommates, Kim, just had a birthday!

Happy belated birthday!

To celebrate we headed up to her home state of Connecticut for a little R & R.

Kim and I headed up a little early.

Got manicures/pedicures, and relaxed.

A couple of friends met us up there and we headed to Candlewood Lake.

Such a gorgeous lake. Perfect weather. Perfect weekend.

I never grew up boating-- so I've only been wake boarding or water skiing a couple of times.

Kim and her sister Natalie are experts.... I am not.

I told them that my main goal was to get up on the board/ski's in the first couple of tries.

I'm happy to report, that I got up on my second try! wahoo.

I was so focused on getting up, that I didn't know what to do after that! haha.

Yesterday was July 7th. Ya know, 7-11.

The day when Seven Eleven gives away free slurpees!

All day I was so excited to get my slurpee.

It was a heat index of about 100 degrees and what felt like 500% humidity--

making it a perfect day for a slurpee.

When we showed up, the sign read

"No more free Slurpees-- we ran out of cups".

Seriously? so sad.

I forked over the $1.33 for the slurpee. I guess I'll survive.

On another note-- did anyone in D.C. watch the lightening last night?

Pretty incredible, huh?

Happy Wedding!

In addition to spending time with my family in California,

I went to for the wedding of Ronnie and Mikael Squire.

The are so dang cute, and I was so happy I got to be there to celebrate.

Ronnie and I became friends years ago at BYU, while we all lived at Lanai.

We had the greatest group of friends that all lived there for about 3 years.

Leigh wrote all about it here.

Ronnie is seriously the best. So inspiring. You can learn more about his story here.

I had a blast being united with the Lanai Crew at the wedding.

The next day, we all got together for a BBQ at Dana Point.

SUCH a gorgeous park.

Ate delicious food. Played football.

and invented the game of Foof.

(A combination of football and frisbee golf).
